Channel Operations Tool

An internal tool used by Educo to maintain metadata across the YouTube channels it owns and operates.

Educo M.R. Ltd. publishes educational content in economics and finance across a network of YouTube channels in seven languages. Keeping metadata accurate and current across a catalogue of that size is not practical to do by hand, so we maintain a small internal tool that performs these updates through the official YouTube Data API.

This page describes what the tool does, who operates it, and what it accesses. It exists so that our use of YouTube API Services is documented and reviewable.

What it does

  1. Lists our own videos The tool reads the uploads playlist for each Educo channel and retrieves video identifiers and titles for the videos it needs to update.
  2. Prepares images offline Thumbnail images are generated on our own systems from our own design templates. This step is entirely local. It does not contact YouTube and involves no automated interaction with the YouTube website or with YouTube Studio.
  3. Uploads the image to the correct video The finished image is set on the corresponding video through the API.
  4. Verifies the result The tool reads back the updated videos to confirm the change was applied, and logs any failures for manual review.

Limits we hold ourselves to

The tool operates only on videos owned by the authenticated account. It does not access, read, store or modify data belonging to any third-party channel or YouTube user. It does not scrape youtube.com. It is not used to influence view counts, subscriptions, engagement or any other metric, and it does not sell, license or transfer YouTube API data to anyone.

Sponsored content produced by Educo is disclosed in accordance with YouTube's paid promotion policies, and thumbnails set by this tool accurately represent the content of the video they belong to.

Data handling

Information retrieved through the API — video identifiers, titles and publication dates for our own videos — is held in temporary local files for the duration of a run and deleted within thirty days. No viewer or subscriber data is collected. Full details are set out in our privacy policy.
